Dinner at my grandparents house tonight. One of my uncles was there – previously living in Egypt he has a lot of friends there at the moment amidst the protests.
Dinner talk turned to something it doesn’t normally turn to – politics. And then music. Good talk. It’s normally history and modern updates, TV and the transition from the 1940s. But we had a laugh as well as some serious thinking, and talking about Cairo where my Uncle once lived and worked meant that when a message from the official Church of England site mentioned a prayer for the people of Egypt I thought it fitting to share it…
in your perfect realm
no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, and no strength known but the strength of love:
We pray that the people of Egypt
may find solace, peace and security
in love which casts out fear,
in respect which restores brokenness
and in the tranquility which heals disorder.
