Egypt

Dinner at my grandparents house tonight. One of my uncles was there – previously living in Egypt he has a lot of friends there at the moment amidst the protests.

Dinner talk turned to something it doesn’t normally turn to – politics. And then music. Good talk. It’s normally history and modern updates, TV and the transition from the 1940s. But we had a laugh as well as some serious thinking, and talking about Cairo where my Uncle once lived and worked meant that when a message from the official Church of England site¬†mentioned a prayer for the people of Egypt I thought it fitting to share it…

Eternal God,
in your perfect realm
no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, and no strength known but the strength of love:
We pray that the people of Egypt
may find solace, peace and security
in love which casts out fear,
in respect which restores brokenness
and in the tranquility which heals disorder.
Amen.
