I surprised myself when I realised I had not noticed how few days remain until Christmas Day arrives. Advent is such a busy time, and as well as many church extras and shows and dinners, I have my many studies! However I’ve made some time each day to remember what Advent is, and why we truly celebrate Christmas, putting aside all of the noise and consumerism of a busy December-time. And of a hectic, expensive and somewhat stressful time too! And so I made the following video, not only for myself, but to share with you and others out there who need some time to sit back and listen. To sit and remember, in peace. The backing song is one of my favourites: In the bleak midwinter.
For unto us a child is born…
In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter, long ago.
Heaven cannot hold Him, nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away when He comes to reign.
In the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed
The Lord God Almighty, Jesus Christ.
Angels and archangels may have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim thronged the air;
But His mother only, in her maiden bliss,
Worshipped the beloved with a kiss.
What then can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.
