University Open Day: Manchester

I came across the Whitworth Building whilst exploring Manchester University campus today, and was taken aback by the beauty of it. Stopping on the side of the road the architecture literally had me gasp for breath. And architecture doesn’t do that very often! It’s worth going to see. I would have loved to photograph it myself, but there were too many people for me to stop long enough. Another day perhaps.

I can’t say that Manchester University particularly thrills me. I’m not a fan of busyness and noise, so Manchester’s a pretty difficult place for me to picture myself living in!

But Manchester University has reminded me of something today. Manchester’s history. I’ve lived close to the city for about 13 years, but never really taken the time to have a proper look around the city. I didn’t give it enough of a chance. “Too loud and busy” I thought. Well yes… but there is some beautiful architecture that will make it worth returning to another day.

Humans may have blown a few holes in the o-zone layer, but we’ve built some beautiful things too eh?
